Style and Personality: Reasons You Should Wear Whatever You Want Regardless of Your Size

“Fashion is about dressing according to what is fashionable. Style is more about yourself.–Oscar de la Renta

Fashion is inclusive.

Regardless of what fashion articles posit or assert, fashion is for everyone and how much you weigh should not determine what you can wear and what you should not. Unfortunately, in a society that views lithe and slim bodies as superior to the rest of the other body types, women who do dare to break societal expectations of dressing according to your size are often regarded with disdain. Indeed, women who are not a size 2 or smaller are often stigmatized by the fashion industry who themselves have stimulated the belief that women should be constrained to a particular style if they are not a certain size. Sure, the fashion industry might be obsessed with super slim bodies and wholesale streetweardistributors might continue to pander apparel pieces to the slimmer fraction of the population, but that does not mean that you are in no way of looking amazing just because of your size. In fact, you should wear whatever you want, so long as you are comfortable and confident. Rock it with conviction and pay no heed to what other people say. As long as you own what you wear, you are beautiful. Here are some of the compelling reasons why you should wear whatever you want:

Clothes are a lot of fun

Clothes were not merely designed to cover ourselves up. They are also a medium for self-expression. In this regard, there are hints of our style and who we are in what we are. With this in mind, what fashion experts should not stop us from wearing what we want. More importantly, we should not take their advices as mandates and directives. After all, who is to say that they are authority figures in your particular style? Wear what you want and toss out those articles where they belong: in the trash.

    You only live once

As clichéd as that maxim might sound, it does make a lot of sense—you do only live once, so you might as well wear that outfit you have been eyeing for months. If there are any current trends that appeal to you, wear them. Do not wait until you are a particular weight to rock them and just go ahead and put them on. Pay no heed to what anyone else has to say or think about it. It is your style and your body. No one else should have a say.

    Do what makes you happy

At the end of the day, doing what makes you happy should come first above all else. Tailoring the way you dress after what the fashion industry thinks is appropriate will only cause you to be miserable and uncomfortable in your own skin. You should not pay any regard or care to what other people say. Remember, if your friends are genuinely your friends, they would not belittle your sartorial choices and encourage you to wear what makes you feel good and happy.

No one should control your feelings but you

If you feel like you are a little fat that is only because you have made yourself feel that way. Doing so would only validate how others view you. Sure, other people can say it but they should not control how you feel about that. Instead, choose to feel sexy and confident in your own skin and incidentally what you wear, you are guaranteed to be amazed at the effects.

  People will always be judgmental

Keep in mind that you cannot please everyone. It does not even matter what size you are—regardless of whether you are a size 2 or not, people will remain judgmental anyway. Instead of spending so much of your time stressing about what others are thinking and what they are doing, focus on yourself. Their opinions should not matter anyhow and should not have any effect in your life. Let them stare and make it worth their while. Strut your stuff and own your ensemble with confidence.

This kind of fashion is also sometimes referred to as street fashion because it is driven by the type of clothing that emerges from the streets or the neighborhoods.  Urban fashion initially became popular in the 1980s and 1990s, when rock stars started wearing clothing styles that fall under this category. Although many designers have created their own urban clothing lines, the styles and trends are often dictated by what people see on the streets and on hip hop and other musical artists.  Because of the popularity of hip hop fashion, there are numerous hip hop clothing lines nowadays and big designer bran...

Reinventing Yourself: Four Ways to Fashionably Bounce Back After a Breakup

“Dress shabbily and they remember the dress; dress impeccably and they remember the woman.”-Coco Chanel It has been said that a woman goes through a different kind of catharsis when she goes through a break out. This might have been caused from the purging of unwanted person in her life or finally because she chose to break free of the toxicity that has been holding her down for so long. Unfortunately, not all women would experience this kind of epiphany soon. Understandably, women who just recently broke up with a significant other would be too distraught to even think about the possibilities. As a result, they would have little to no absolute care for themselves. They are so absorbed and enraptured by their thoughts that the last thing that would be on their mind is too look good and consequently feel good. Unfortunately, if a woman has wallowed in this hole far too long, she might emerge as a different woman which can be either a good or bad thing. Good if it actually...
