Wardrobe Essentials: Ten (10) Must-Have Pieces In A Man’s Closet

On the previous post, we’ve tackled Wardrobe Essentials for Women. This time, let’s focus on the Must-Have Pieces for Men.

1.      Dark Tailored Business Suit.

Do’s: Dark gray or navy suits that hug your shoulders, waist and legs; custom-tailored; 100% wool with two to three buttons and notch lapels; single-breasted

Don’ts: double-breasted or with pleats

Dress up: pair with well-fitted gray pants

Dress down: pair with jeans
Must-have: necktie in dark, solid color or stripes

 

 2.      White dress shirt.

Do’s: crisp white or soft blue colored; wrinkle-free and 100% cotton-made; one line of stitching running down the side of the shirt; two-ply count on shirt label is stronger and softer 
Dress up: pair with a suit 
Dress down: pair with jeans 
Additional Wardrobe: multi-color dress shirts or polo shirts with shades of navy blue, gray and dark green

3.      Tees.

Do’s: black or white with different neckline styles apt for your body type 
Additional Wardrobe: a couple of other plain tees

4.      Denims. 
Do’s: well-fitted jeans; dark-colored; raw and untreated 
Don’ts: baggy or skinny jeans; light-colored 
Where to find: You can find good ones when you visit wholesale urban clothing shops. There are wholesale girbaud jeans there that can give you a fair price for three or four pairs.

5.      Sweater.

Do’s: gray, navy blue or chocolate brown colored; V-neck shaped large enough to fit a collared shirt but small enough to fit a T-shirt

Dress up: pair with blazer

Dress down: pair with jeans

6.      Cardigan/Blazer.
Do’s: navy blue; cardigans made of soft fabric perhaps wool or cotton; blazers with simple cut and two buttons 
Don’ts: blazers with gold or brass buttons 
Biggest alternative: leather jackets are iconic!

7.      Dress shoes. It’s the first thing women look at!

Do’s: black or brown; clean-polished; with fine leather and stitching; rounded toe

Don’ts: square toe

Must-have: matching black belt and black socks

8.      Sneakers.

Do’s: subtle colored that goes well with jeans or casual pants; durable yet stylish

Must-have: matched pair of socks or white socks

 
9.      Watch. The only accessory that matters as it speaks about your personality. 
Do’s: masculine feel; with metal or leather bands 
Don’ts: sports watch (this may be used for casual look only)

        10.  Others. 

Wallet: black or brown that is leather-made 
Handkerchief: white-linen pocket hanky
